Petersham (Gross Grain)

Petersham is most commonly used for head fittings or for the edging on hats.
If used for a head fitting a minimum of 1" width is recommended for a good fit. A wider width looks even classier and shows off a made to measure hat.

Petersham is often mistakenly referred to as Gross Grain. However this is NOT the same thing and it is important to know the difference.
Petersham, which has been around since 19th century, is used in ladies’ and mens' hats and is easily recognised by its scalloped edges.
Gross Grain however has a straight edge and is used for the band in mens' hats as well as in dress making.
