Millinery students from Kangan Batman TAFE’s Richmond Campus will showcase their hat designs at a millinery soiree at ‘Churches’ restaurant in Richmond on 10 October 2002 from 7.00pm.
Among them are many award winning students, best of the best and taught by the best in the millinery industry including Waltraud Reiner, who herself was trained by the Queen’s milliner Rose Corey.
The Soiree that will take place between 7.00pm and 9.00pm on 10 October will include a display of their designs, a parade and a data show of the work done by the students. Guests will include members of the millinery and the fashion industry.
The students will showcase hat designs suitable for race wear, evening wear, bridal wear and casual wear in different fabrics including felt, sinamay and fabric.
The designs are all original and created to the highest standards. At the Flemington Fashion on the Fields luncheon held in September, students from Kangan Batman TAFE won Best Table for Hats.
Their designs also made it to the finals at the Wagga Golden Gowns Awards in August. Kangan Batman TAFE students were up against long established and well-known milliners from around Australia, but made it to the finals never the less.
The students are busy getting their designs ready for the Soiree. Lesley Rochhi one of the students feels that it is the class environment that makes the students the best in what they do.
“Class-room discussion is very valuable. We bounce our ideas off each other, respect and enjoy each other’s differences, appreciate the creativity of the teachers and get on well together. All in all it is team work,” she says.
Kangan Batman TAFE offers courses in millinery through its Fashion Studies Department, starting from Certificate 1 level to Certificate IV. Students from level 2 to level 4 will showcase their creations at this function.
