Millinery material: raffia cloth
Raffia was used many years ago for hand made and plaited hats. Raffia hats are still
popular today especially because of its good wearing characteristics.
Raffia is very useful as a trimming on casual hats such as sun hats. It is also used as a canvas and can be used for embroidery (see image), bag making.
It can be dyed with natural hot or cold dyes. Also try dying with food colourings, they often bring great results.
Embroider or paint your design before making your hat.
