Millinery material: ribbons (Petersham and Grosgrain)
Ribbons used to line head fittings are known as petersham ribbon or grosgrain ribbon. Grosgrain are traditionally stitched into skirts at the waistband. It has
a straight woven edge.
Petersham is used in ladies’ hats & is easily recognised by its scalloped edges.
Petersham has been around since 1848!! Petersham is also used in mens’ hats & has a straight edge & therefore comes
as grosgrain. Do not use polyester petershams - they have no stretch & melt under an iron.
Best quality petersham available on the market at present is ’Panda Petersham’.
