All foundation materials are used for structural work in hat making. Some have specific use.
Fascinator base - from 20/20 AUD $7.00 Great starting point to make a fascinator, cover it in Sinamay, add a few feathers, some flowers and you have a fascinator. You can also use this base for making Sinamay toy hats. Attach a piece of elastic with metal ends (see above) to keep it on your head.

20/20 is used for blocking and extensions of necks. It can also be used to make hat blocks. 20/20 is easy to shape as a foundation for fabric hats. Make your own fascinator base from one square. Or make your own complete, stunning fascinator here.
Leno:
Leno is cut on the bias and is used for covering wire to have smooth edges on hats. Leno can be blocked into shapes for see-through crowns if doubled up. Leno will achieve a soft feel and look of your hat. You can use it as a foiundations substitute for blocking net in straw crowns.
