Plastic Fantastic is a unique thermoplastic material which is mouldable under heat. It can be stretched and shaped to achieve unique sculptural effects.
It was originally developed as a casting bandage for the medical industry, as a lightweight, waterproof alternative to Plaster of Paris.
In its pre-activated state, Plastic Fantastic is a stiff polymer sheet about 2mm thick, with a grid of circular holes (originally designed to make the cast breathable). However, once heated, it can be stretched up to three times its original size, creating a fascinating canopy effect.
Plastic Fantastic can be activated under dry or wet heat, so you can use a hairdryer or heat gun; an oven or microwave; a steamer, or immersion in hot water. Heat guns are the most popular method as they allow the most control.
