Paris Cloth is a stunning blend of abaca and soft thread. It has a warp of abaca fibre and a weft of polyester thread, giving it a very interesting textile look.
The natural straw fibre holds dye well but the synthetic thread does not. This creates a stark contrasting effect between the warp and the weft of the fabric.
Paris Cloth is lightweight and flexible, holding shape beautifully while still retaining its softness. It is best used as a foundation for lightweight hats. Paris cloth also lends itself beautifully to curved flourishes like loops and bows. Try it out - it's a wonderful material for free-shaping and draped styles.
Paris Cloth is usually used for more free-flowing and folded shapes in millinery. The thread can be frayed to produce a soft spray of abaca. It also looks beautiful when pressed and pleated because of its draping qualities.
